How to Determine Pipe Thread Size

Pipe thread sizes do not refer to actual physical dimensions. To identify a fitting, measure the outside diameter of a male thread (MPT) or the inside diameter of a female thread (FPT) and compare it to the chart below. For example, a 1/4" NPT fitting measures approximately 0.54" in diameter. Correct sizing is especially important when selecting regulator fittings and replacement components.

Thread Compatibility Information

Important: Pipe thread, flare thread, machine thread, BSP thread, and other thread standards are not interchangeable. Components with different thread types will not properly connect, seal, or operate together.

Always verify thread type, size, and compatibility before ordering fittings, adapters, regulators, valves, or replacement parts to ensure proper installation and leak-free performance.
